NOVENA IN PREPARATION FOR PENTECOST
The novena for vocations is nine days of prayer leading to the great Feast of Pentecost. Pentecost was is Jewish Feast celebrated 50 days after the Feast of Passover; for the disciples of Jesus it was the Feast when Jesus fulfilled his promise that the Father would send another advocate in His name, the Spirit of Truth.
Jesus teaches us that the Spirit, will teach us everything, and remind us of all that Jesus has said to us. (cf. John 14:26)
We are praying for the Holy Spirit to renew the Church here in Birkenhead and across our country and our world, that we may bear witness to Jesus. Saint Paul tells us, "how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent? (Romans 10:14–15a)
Let each one of us as we pray for the renewal which the Spirit brings reflect on where is the Lord calling us, what work has He entrusted to us that has been given to no one else? How are we responding to Lord’s call in our own lives & in how we contribute to the life of our parish?
Why not pray this novena each day starting from Friday (day after Ascension Day)?

Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Please pray for Pope Francis, Bishop Mark & our community.
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth. O, God, who taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that by the gift of the same Spirit we may be always truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation, we make our prayer through Christ Our Lord, Amen
